Amendment III: No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law. |
Surely this was written in a time when colonials had experienced the quartering of soldiers in their homes, against their will. What they resented was their home being used as a tactical asset for military operations, without regard to the rightful owner's privacy. Their daily life was certainly trampled in the process.
The adaptation is this: Children should not be used as a tactical asset for either parent, when parents are in conflict. Children should not be asked to spy on or report on the activities of the other parent. This is not to preclude a child being in alliance with one parent when the other parent is abusing them both. Consent matters. Divorce can be like war. Marriage can be like war. The whole point of the Human Standard is to empower people to treat each other like whole human beings, providing a succinct map toward Justice in our family homes. Without justice, there is no true peace. |
